A Mask That Did Nothing | The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Mask

I just finished tidying up my cosmetic cabinet and I almost forgotten that I have this in my collection. I remember I bought this for RM119 per 100ml tub, somewhere in March this year, when I was still using Retin-A with a hope that this mask could smooth-en the surface of my skin due to the harsh and drying effect from Retin-A application.

As in the title above, this mask did nothing to my face and probably that's why I easily forget about it. Pity you. I don't know if it just me or what.. But I gave one more chance to this mask and yup, it did nothing - once again!

First, let's go through the ingredients list

Kaolin (Absorbent), Aqua (Solvent/Diluent), Glycerin (Humectant), Sucrose (Depilatory Agent), Olea Europaea Oil (Emollient), Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifier), Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil (Emollient), Benzyl Alcohol (Preservative), Sodium Levulinate (Skin Conditioning Agent), Cetearyl Glucoside (Surfactant), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (Skin Conditioning Agent), Stearyl Alcohol (Emollient), Sodium Anisate (Fragrance Ingredient), Salicylic Acid (Preservative/Hair Conditioner), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Skin Conditioning Agent), Xanthan Gum (Viscosity Modifier), Stearic Acid (Emulsifier), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Palmitic Acid (Surfactant), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Citral (Fragrance Ingredient), Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil (Fragrance Ingredient), Citronellol (Fragrance Ingredient), Geraniol (Fragrance Ingredient), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Calcium Sulfate (Absorbent/Bulking Agent), Daucus Carota Sativa Seed Oil (Natural Additive), Myristic Acid (Emulsifier), Buddleja Davidii Extract (Skin Conditioning Agent), Thymus Vulgaris Extract (Natural Additive), Malva Sylvestris Flower Extract (Natural Additive), Foeniculum Vulgare Oil (Fragrance/Essential Oil), Cymbopogon Flexuosus Oil (Masking Agent), Calcium Carbonate (Absorbant), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Peel Oil (Fragrance Component), Thymus Vulgaris Oil (Fragrance/Essential Oil), Arginine (Skin Conditioning Agent), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Rosa Damascena Flower Oil (Fragrance Ingredient), CI 77491 (Colour).

The Body Shop claims that this mask,

Our certified organic range has been created for the first signs of ageing. This face mask is an intensive cleanser that leaves skin feeling softer and smoother.
  • Leaves skin feeling smooth
  • 98% of ingredients are of natural origin
So I believe this mask is good for those who are wants to deep cleanse their skin and it helps to boost the radiance and leaving the skin feeling smooth and silky. According to The Body Shop, the Babassu oil is wonderfully light, non greasy and pressed from the wild growing Babassu nuts. This is the key ingredients that actually helps to smooth-en the skin.

How I apply this? As usual, after cleansing my face with the face wash, I continue with the toner or Avene Thermal Water, then I slap a thin layer of this mask on my face. I leave it for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with warm water. I must say, it is not easy to remove this during rinsing off, you have to use sponge in order to take this completely off your face.

According to The Body Shop SA, this mask supposed to promotes a youthful and healthy looking complexion, when it is used with other products from Nutriganics range. Since I only bought the mask, maybe I did not get the good result from this. Really?

Personally I think this is quite a thick, greasy and overly scented mask. I don't know, I just did not like the smell - it's smell like a cheap essential oil. Maybe it just me? I don't know.

I also can't agree with TBS that this is a clay mask - maybe not my kind of clay mask. This mask did not drying or crack during application, that's all I noticed for sure. It just sit on your face with that kind of not so pleasant smell (at least to me) for 10 minutes.

I usually put this mask at night, pampering my skin while watching TV before going to sleep. Surprisingly, right after rinsing off my face, yes it smooth-en my skin but my skin feels a little greasy and the smell is still there.

Every time I applied this, I woke the next morning with a super greasy skin and disappointingly I broke out and it 'excellently' gave me a huge cystic acne! So I decided to stop using this. It just did not help with deep cleansed or help in eliminating the first sign of ageing as claimed. I just hate this stuff.

All in all, I did not see any pros of this mask on me. Probably one or two things I should highlight i.e. 98% of the ingredients are natural origins and it maybe good for those with dry skin. As for the cons - it neither help with deep cleansing as claims nor helping with the first sign of ageing, expensive compared to what it claims and what it did to my face, it broke me out, it makes my skin greasy - more oil production from the base of my pores and it has a weird and not so pleasant smell to my nose.

I heard and read so many great things from those who tried this, maybe just not for me. How about you? If you have plan to get this, my suggestion is please get the sample of this product first before you actually buy the full size. This is my most regretted purchase ever!
