As usual, the hotter the weather is, my skin gets oilier, shinier and frequently breakouts. I just don't understand why my skin reacts to hotter weather angrily and actively.
So during my 'sightseeing' and browsing through the local drugstore a couple of days ago, I also picked up my favorite clay mask from Watsons - Freeman Facial Clay Mint and Lemon. This is my second tube and I still remember the first tube lasted me about 4-5 months before I finished it.
I actually owned four 'flavors' of Freeman mask which targeting different concern on my skin. I have posted a review for one of the 'flavor' I have, which you can find it here.
It's retail for RM20 before discount but Guardian and Watsons always have promotion for this, that could cost you only RM17 per 150ml tube. Cheap right? A pretty decent, affordable mask that could last longer - who doesn't love that?
Talking about the cheaper price tag, you must be wondering whether this product actually deliver its jobs or not? As stated in Freeman's website that this lemony cool clay mask delivers relief from inflammation caused by breakouts. The clay absorb oils to minimize shine and large pores. The mint and lemon cools and refreshes which is perfect for breakout prone and oily skin.
Here are the ingredients listed out in the website,
Key Ingredients:
Mint Extract
Lemon Extract
Kaolin Clay
Ingredient List:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Bentonite, Kaolin, Propylene Glycol, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Titanium Dioxide, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Polyacrylate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Fragrance (Parfum), Geraniol, Linalool, d-Limonene, Blue 1 (CI 42090), Yellow 5 (CI 19140).
MakeupAlley.com has a good rating for this product - 4.4 lippies and everyone is raving about it especially those with oily and acne prone skin. So I believe this is truly a very good product with affordable price tag, tested and reviewed by real people.
Being an oily skin that is prone to breakouts, my skin actually really loves this. I love the texture and consistency of this mask, it may look like a normal clay mask with a nice minty smell, but a thin layer of this mask applied on my face, really make a different. The mint green color of this mask really fun to use it - when I can turn into Shrek in a blink! Hahaha.. I also experienced a cool sensation upon applying this on. It dries nicely to the point that I can't even smile or move my lips, but I didn't always wait till it really dry. Just when its nearly 10-20% drying (about 10-15 minutes), I quickly rinse it off with warm water and immediately apply the moisturizer.
I don't like my skin can be too drying by slapping this on and wait till it completely dry up (as recommended) for more than 20 minutes ( I used to felt asleep while waiting for that 20 minutes) and when I woke up, my skin feels really tight and dry after rinsing it off. The mask took off all the bad and good oil under my skin completely - and no amount of moisturizer is enough to compensate the dryness. So I learnt my lesson very well, some good things cannot be overdone, otherwise it can turn into bad thing.
For some occasion when it is so rare, I'm using this for a spot treatment by simply applying small dot(s) on the breakout areas and leave it overnight - the next morning I rinse it off and leaving the skin with no redness, breakouts seems smaller in size - for small and minor ones, it's actually 'died' and the bumps appeared more even.
So when it is done nicely for 10-15 minutes, my skin actually looks better - the breakout soothes, no redness, very even and supple, just like what I need as for a healthy skin looks like. I don't experience any breakout after using this mask so far so I must say, this is a great mask provided I don't overdo the waiting time while applying it to the whole face.
The only downside of this mask, it contains paraben, make it a not so perfect mask for those who are really concern about the paraben as one of the ingredients but overall it is a good mask with pocket friendly price tag.
